Universal Yachting 44ft Aluminium cutter with lifting centreboard

André Mauric designed this 44ft custom aluminum cutter with lifting centerboard, built in the Universal Shipyard in France and launched in 2004.  An exceptionally well-maintained boat completely equipped for long distance cruising.

Her first owner did an Atlantic loop from France and the boat was little used until her current and 2nd owners purchased her in 2011.  They have sailed the Caribbean, Central America and now on to French Polynesia, leaving the boat on the hard for 2-3 months per year when they returned home.

Karlaika is a high specification build in aluminum H111, with recently repainted decks and antifouling from Feb 2022.  There is a simple mechanical lift for the centerboard giving a draft range of 1.1 – 3.1m, perfect for both upwind sailing and shallow anchorages.

The rig is a cutter with furling mainsail (replaced in 2020), furling genoa and furling staysail, and for downwind sailing there is a furling gennaker.  In addition, there is a removable baby stay making the rig solid for any sea condition. The rigging is from 2019 and there is Beaufort windvane steering to compliment the Raymarine P70 autohelm.

Inside there is professional cabinetry in American Elm wood throughout, with 3 double cabins including the owner’s suite forward with private shower.  The saloon features a large folding table on starboard side forward and aft chart table with dedicated seating.  The galley is in U on port side with Corian work surfaces.  The ensemble is warm and welcoming.

The boat is equipped with 440W of solar, wind generator, 2000W portable generator and water maker and 540Ah of battery storage. There are 1000l of water storage and 580l of diesel storage, meaning you can live off the grid easily.

In the cockpit has a lovely teak covering with custom folding teak table.  The leather covered Hallberg Rassy stainless steel steering wheel is aft and the cockpit is protected by a Altuglass windscreen and Dralon bimini giving full weather protection.

Dériveur aluminium de 44 pieds dessiné par André Mauric et construit au chantier Universal en France en 2004. Un monocoque méticuleusement entretenu et préparé pour le tour du monde.

Le premier propriétaire a effectué une boucle atlantique puis l’a constamment entretenu en France avant de le vendre aux propriétaires actuels en 2011. Ceux-ci ont parcouru les Caraïbes, l’Amérique Centrale et la Polynésie. Chaque année ils ont sorti le bateau de l’eau pendant 2 à 3 mois. La coque est donc en parfait état.

Karlaika est construit en aluminium H111 et a été repeint entièrement, avec le dernier carénage effectué en février 2022. La dérive se relève avec un mécanisme simple et éprouvé, portant le tirant d’eau de 110 cm a 310 cm : parfait à la fois pour faire du cap au près et pour accéder aux meilleurs mouillages.

Son gréement de côtre avec grand-voile de 2020 à enrouleur, genoa à enrouleur et trinquette à enrouleur le rend très facile à manier. L’étai largable permet d’affronter toutes les conditions de mer en sécurité. Le gréement a été remplacé en 2019. Karkaila dispose à la fois d’un pilote automatique Raymarine P70 et d’un régulateur d’allure.

L’intérieur très convivial en orme américain offre 3 cabines double dont la suite propriétaire à l’avant avec sa douche privative. Dans le salon on trouve une large table repliable à tribord en avant de la table à cartes. A bâbord la cuisine en U avec plans de travail en corian.

Le plan Mauric Karkaila est équipé pour le tour du monde : 400W de solaire, eolienne, générateur portable 2000W, batteries de 540 Ah, dessalinisateur, reservoirs d’eau de 1000 litres.

Le cockpit est recouvert de teck en bon état avec une table en teck repliable. La barre à roues en inox Hallberg Rassy recouverte de cuir est positionnée à l’arrière et le cockpit est protégé par une grande casquette et un bimini en Dralon
