Description

Deck and Hull Equipment

The Classic 43 is a Mortain & Mavrikios design. The hull below the waterline is solid glasfiber, and above the water line there are inner and outer layers of glasfiber, with a cored layer of PVC foam between. The Dufour Classic 43 has a rigid and solid structure, that is also light, giving it the added benefits of sailing very well in light winds. The cored hull gives added benefits of sound- and heat insulation. The deck is cored with end-grain balsa.

The standing rigging consists of a deck-stepped mast with a massive compression post. The chainplates are positioned well inboard. The tie-rod passes through the galley and dinette to anchor plates molded into the hull. The 43 classic has a standard bulkhead grid that is tabbed to the hull, deck and floors. This provides stiffness to the construction. Heads are built of fiberglass modules that are glassed into place. The interior furniture is made of mahogany veneer. All through-hulls and corresponding valves were replaced in 2021.

Mechanical Equipment

The Dufour 43 is a masthead-rigged sloop. The standing rigging is brand new and were installed in Tahiti in August of 2022, except the baby stay and removable inner forestay that were considered to be in good condition. The opportunity was also used to reinforce the area of the mast, close to the mast foot, and move the holes for the electrical cables a bit higher. During the long passages over the Pacific, we have had great luck utilizing a poled-out genoa together with the main – or too pole out a sail on the removable inner forestay on the opposite side. The symmetrical spinnaker appears to be in good condition, but as we have been short-handed, and generally had enough wind, we have not used it. The full-batten main sail is new of December 2021 and is made of heavy dacron, and comes with three reefs, so it can be reefed deep in strong winds. The 150% furling genoa is losing its shape and should probably be replaced soon. A brand new Hydrovane Windvane were installed in 2022.

The engine is a Volvo Penta MD22L-B with 50 hp. There is a saildrive unit that is mounted below the companionway step, for an efficient and simple power transfer to the propeller. The original 120S-E saildrive was replaced/upgraded to a Volvo Penta 130S in September 2022 as the transmission mechanism was showing sign of wear. Therefor the seawater-intake of the sail drive is also in very good condition, and the main saildrive gasket is brand new of 2022.

  • Volvo Penta MD22L-B 50hp
  • Fuel tank (220 liter) below aft starboard berth
  • Prefilter, filter, water strainer, valve between diesel tank and engine
  • Changed leaking seawater pump 2022
  • Changed exhaust elbow 2022
  • Replaced 120S-E saildrive with worn gear mechanism with a 130S saildrive 2022 (second hand, but in very good condition)
  • Replaced transmission cable (2022)
  • Leaking fresh water pump: New pump is bought but not yet installed. Corresponding area of engine should be cleaned and treated with anti-corrosion and painted

The electrical system is logical and well laid out through the central panel at the navigation station. Each lead bearing a number tab, making it easy to trace shorts and add new electrical features. 400 Ah of Lithium batteries and two solar panels, totaling 650W were installed in January 2022. In addition to the alternator, there is an DuoGen, that can be used to produce electricity from water or wind. We have never had to run the alternator in order to charge the batteries. A Victron Argo FET battery isolator was also installed so both house bank and the starter battery can be charged from the alternator without discharging each other. A new shore power charger weas installed in 2022, and have been used once in a marina, when the solar panels were folded in. Multiple USB-outlets and fans have been installed. There is one 300W inverter to run 220V appliances or small power tools off the battery bank.

NB! The boat is currently in Fiji. I am in the process of getting boats.com to change the location informed in the ad from NZ to Fiji, ad I could not pick Fiji as an alternative. Depending of where a potential buyer is located, we might be able to deliver it to NZ, Fiji, Australia, Vanuatu or New Caledonia. Please reach out if you have any questions
