Prout Quasar 50 from 1993 in beautiful condition. Built for an English owner with several modifications to the interior layout from the standard Prout 50 build. Sold in 2005 to her current owner who has sailed her and maintained her to excellent standards since.
The Prout bothers started the modern cruising catamaran trend over 50 years ago. The Prout 50 is a comfortable and stable ocean sailing catamaran, with decent performance and a plenty of living space.
Bright Star has a warm and classic wood interior. The saloon has 2 seating areas as well as the chart table and includes a fuel stove for colder climes. The galley is down, but communicates with the saloon for an airier and lighter feel. It comes fully equipped with Villeroy & Boch crockery and glass ware, testament to how little the boat moves when at sea! Both hulls have a double cabin aft and a passage cabin with double bunks forward. On starboard side in addition to the galley, there is a fully equipped work and storage space. On port side the bathroom and shower is forward and there is an attractive library and desk space midships.
The cockpit is organized around sailing with the helm station on starboard with all lines available to trim the furling mainsail as well as and genoa and staysail. There is a small table on port in addition to a vast aft deck which on Bright Star includes a hammock and deck chair. This area is used to store the dingy when at sea, and the planked ‘terrace’ comes in handy for boarding and gutting fish caught at sea.
The Prout 50 is a steady and comfortable boat giving respectable performance. There is everything you might need for long distance cruising including solar, wind generator, water maker, 2.9m aluminum hulled dingy and 2 outboard engines (all recent), full household and tools. The key equipment is in good condition, with the rig and sails from 2014, engines just overhauled, windless from 2022 and stainless steel chain and last antifouling done end 2021.
With the addition of some safety equipment which is now out of date, Bright Start will be ready to take her new owner anywhere they choose to go. This is a rare find, a catamaran reasonably priced and full of recent equipment. Contact for the inventory and to arrange your visit.
